I've been thinking about buying a boat. I fish mostly for Salmon/Steelhead in rivers but would fish more in lakes and Puget Sound if I had a boat.
A guy I work with is selling his boat because he hasn't been using it the last few years. It's a 1986 14' Glassply (boston whaler style) fiberglass it has a center steering console a 1985 Merc 35hp with 42hrs it has a dual battery settup with switch rodholders caulkins trailer with new tires also has a depth finder and windshield and an anchor. The pictures look like its in real nice shape and real clean. He said he would take $1800 for it does this sound like a good deal?
As much input as possible would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I would have to borrow the money to buy the boat. What's the best way to justify the purchase to my wife? (from your experiences)

You would be almost stealing at that price.

I have owned 4 power boats since 1984 and this sounds like a great deal. Glassply makes a nice boat.
Good Luck

Are these boats stable enough to fish the lower puget sound?

The price seems good. But make sure to check it out well. maybe you can go out with him on it and check out all the finer points.
