We're going to be in the Bremerton area for a week around July 4th and want to do some fishing. Are there any ocean charters anywhere on the Peninsula worth doing?? What about lakes/rivers? It looks like this is not the time of year for salmon, right? Any recommendations are welcome! ------------------ http://www.xor.cc for cyber clothes

Howdy, The ocean salmon fishing opens July 3, from area 2 north to area 4, which includes Westport. It might be hard to get a spot, so check it out as soon as possible to get reservations. Summer Steelhead are what I'll be going after in July-Aug. The Skykomish and her forks will be in prime shape, after the spring run-off. Get up to Index on the N. Fork and enjoy the scenery and the fishing. Wild (no fins clipped) fish must be gently released, and that is easier with barbless hooks, though not required by state regs. Those little "Rainbows" are baby Steelys that need to be avoided if using a natural bait. Gulping their food is hazardous to their health. "Move to Bremerton" MXPX

Skiguy, Go to http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/ and follow the links to the fishing/shellfishing page. There lies the Washington fishing regs, there is a map outlining the salt water areas there. Tight lines, Jeff

Assuming we wanted to fish the salmon opener, which of the charters out of Westport would be best?? Any recommendations?
