Hello -
I'm a lowly out-of-towner coming in Oct 9 for three days of fishing on the Skykominsh. I've been lucky enough to find some local vendors, grab a little tackle (rivrfishr) and trying to listen as closely as possible.

Regarding the Skykomish:
1. will water temps warrant neoprene waders?
2. what general weather can I expect?
3. water up or down?
4. general fishing conditions?

I'll be spinning and tossing flies with my on-the-heavy-side 8wt rig.

Any advice or tips graciously accepted.

PS: I did a NOLS trip through the Glacier Peak wilderness in 1974. Looking at the Skykomish maps brought a rush of memories for sure.

waders yes.
it has been hit or miss on the weather... check the forecast for gold bar or sultan.
water is extremely low still. but one good rain could change all that.
access has been a problem this year, the railroad guys don't seem to want us anywhere near the tracks and are still ticketing.

I don't have any advice other than that... there are coho in there... and should be some summer runs, but I'm still looking for new access points.

As noted, parking and crossing the railroad tracks may result in getting a ticket.

This cuts off access to the mouth of the Wallace where it meets with the Sky, which has been an extremely popular spot for years.

This bit of information got me looking for a loophole and looking for a way around this to access the river. But it appears that BNSF RAILWAY COMPANY owns that entire parcel on the other side of the tracks from the reese road parking lot down to the wallace. They also own the other side of the river as well.

Every year there are a few spots closed off I think its time to get a sled.

Maybe it is time to nationalize the railroad system and put the control of tracks and right of ways back in the peoples hands.
BNSF, Wearhouser and any large corporation should not be aloud to control and block access to huge blocks of land. When a company becomes that powerful and can affect that many people, they need to have some controls put on them.

I believe BNSF is owned by Warren Buffett. I don't really have the kind of money needed to even buy a Jet Sled let alone tangle with his legal team!

Because they should not have the ability to protect their land, equipment and their bottom line from slobs, thieves, vandals and lawsuits from people injured while using it ? Unfortunately I see this happening more and more due to the entitlement mentality of the people who cannot act like adults or feel its anothers responsibility to clean up after them . Don't like it one bit, but cannot blame them either.
