Sections of Hoh River closing soon to all fishing to protect low salmon returns

Two areas of the Hoh River on the Olympic Peninsula will close to all fishing after Monday, Sept. 29 through Oct. 15 to protect low salmon returns.

The sections closing are from the Morgan’s Crossing boat launch up to the Olympic National Park boundary, and the South Fork Hoh outside Olympic National Park.

Spring and summer chinook returns to the Hoh have been down for a few years, and spawning escapement has been sub-par in the upper river.

These fish are usually cleared of these areas by the middle of October.

State fisheries says the coastal strip portion of the Park remains open with the remainder of the Hoh below Morgan’s Crossing boat launch.
