Quick question for you.
I like fishing 15 pound mono with spoons, but prefer braid for spinners.
What's your favorite braid (brand, test, color) for tossing spinners for fall salmon? Or do you like mono better?

For what it's worth I greatly prefer mono for everything except trolling for salmon and fishing for lingcod.

Ill fish 30 lb power pro green braid for everything except spinners. If you get a faulty swivel on your line the braid becomes a knot and a huge pita.
I especially like braid for float fishing. But I always have a fluorocarbon leader on any braided setup.

I love spoons and also use mono. 12 lb though. I also prefer braided for spinners. I just use the normal green power pro 20lb.

Power Pro, Hi Vis, 40#.......jigs, plugs, spinners, spoons, bait, bobber/jigs.
I use 18" - 2' of ultra Green......bait and bobber/jigs......other than that, I tie directly to a duo-lock, and I'm good to go.
Stopped using 20 and 30 pound braid, just to many "rod tip wraps" and these seems to "knot more"........40# cut down on those problems...

I've been using 40# PP bright yellow stuff. Fish spinners for salmon in unlimited visibility all the time. Most everybody I fish with uses high-vis on spinners.
Works fine. Catch plenty.
I hate braid for drift fishing for salmon. No idea exactly why, but I think the sink-ability of mono makes it better. I use thin braid all the time for drift fishing steelhead.

Todd I'm on the the Braid Hate List except for big water apps. My big water rigs have TUF Line on them. Power Pro seems to be the universal favorite, tho. I'm using 10# Izor Hi Vis Chartreuse at the moment with very good results (weighted spinners). Gotta have range. Grip, rip, repeat with catching in between.

#40 Power Pro moss green with a #30-40 ultra green extender. Good luck,
SZ This is 100% the correct answer. I tie a 3 - 4' top shot directly to my braid and use a swivel at the spinner or jig. I can swap either lure in a split second depending on the water. I can also reel all the way to fish without worry. They are not line shy so 20 - 40 lb shots do the trick and help pull up wood when stick fishin'.

Been running 30# Hi Vis Power Pro Slick 8 with a 5' bumper of 15lb UG for all things coho. Seems to work good. Have to retie the bumper every couple trips. Deep water or trying to swing spinners under wood requires a longer bumper to help it sink or get swept. Slick 8 doesn't seem to be the best floating braid out there so it works great for hardware.
That being said, I smoked last weekend by a buddy running straight 10# mono. So who knows.

I think a lot of it has to do with the way you fish as well. From a boat, I think it is much easier to use braid on spinners. For one a strong swivel, and palomar knot gets you back your spinner most of the time when you can get the boat over to it. From the bank, I like a 15' bumper for swinging or straight mono.
95% of my coho fishing is for fresh fish in 2' to 8' of water, from a boat. Getting deep is rarely as important as just getting it near a fish.
If I was working over holes with multiple angles and casts, like I would in a drift boat or from the bank, I would use mono or a long bumper.

I like blue Diamond Braid in 40 or 50 lb. Less wind knots, will pull a good size boulder to your feet if needed. I use 20 lb Momoi Diamond mono for a leader; it tests at 39 lbs actual breaking strength. Double uni knot to connect leader to braid and you're good to go. I also use this for bouncing jigs along rocky riprap for rockfish, greenling and other stuff and for twitching jigs for salmon and char. But unlike many, I don't use a very long stick. I actually prefer a 6'6" to 7' spinning rod for spinner fishing or jig bouncing.
