Can anyone give me feedback on the Shimano Crosair CS300 or CS400 reel for Salmon/Steelheads? I have a chance to pick up one of each for $40.00 each. Before I do want to get feedback if it is a reliable reel and suited for river fishing for Silvers and Steelheads?
Thanks in Advance,
Jduck1

Not durable. You can get some fishing out of them but expect the unexpected. And I hate the thumb bar release.

I've got two corsair 400's, and i've taken them back for new ones twice. Sometimes if you're jigging, or fighting a fish, the reel will go into freespool for no reason. The latest set i got has the gold sides(before 2000 they were all silver), and we've had no problem with them. Yet.

The Corsair has worked well for my fishing partner, "Sparky", However, I personally feel you would be better suited moving up to the calcutta series. They seem to offer a smoother retrieve than the Corsair. However, the thumb bar release can be a disaster waiting to happen. Never personally experienced any problems with mine, (Knock on wood!!!) Either will fill the type of fishing that you are looking for.
