Nice photo. But upon close examination Im wondering what river around here has wisteria, two kinds of japanese maple, ginko, and oak leaves along a riparian zone to wash up on a gravel bar to create the frame those beauties. Yard shot? Nice work regardless.

nicely presented photo Doc. Did you fish with Larry Dahlberg? I see what I think is the plastic wrap and label on the cork on the rod in the right, a famous Dahlberg move.... wink

Very nice! smile

Yeah the wrap is still on the cork of that glass rod.... FethaStyx attempt to resurrect the old school Fenwick FS83.

45 years ago, that pic might have looked more like this....

Of course these were most likely wild since no one was clipping fish back then. Funny how I don't see any adi-fins when I click the full size image on PB. More on another thread.

The "fall collage" of colorful foliage and chrome coho has been a fNp staple for the past half dozen years. Sadly, this year's rendition of fall colors looks more like this.

Definitely lamenting the absence of chrome hatch coho to complement the backyard pallette this year. Can only hope for better next year.

In this case, AHFAD.

All hatchery fish are dead.......

But it's good to hear that coho fishing on many/some Gray's Harbor tribs have re-opened.

I'm somewhat optimistic the coho returns won't be quite as bad as folks think. The high water brought in alot of fish. Hopefully that will be enough for the hatcheries and the spawning grounds. But it might be too little, too late for the sport anglers.

I had also missed your fall coho collage. It has been my favorite fish picture on this board. I guess hope springs eternal. If you look at the PDO for March-July of 2015 it says that the 2016 coho run could be worse off than this year.

I remember that issue. I think he spoke about the potential for catching bright silvers and steelhead in the same day. Those were the days. Huge silvers into January and plenty of them. We also fly fished it then and slammed the silvers.

The cartoon about the real reason leaves change color left out an important point (to some of us).

When the tree sends the nutrients from the leaves to the branches, they actually ship those nutrients farther down - to the roots. In many trees, the roots contain several species of fungi which helps supply the tree with water and important nutrients from the soil, all year long. But when the trees sends the photosynthetic nutrients down to the roots (late summer and fall), the fungi get a big shot of energy, which they promptly put into reproduction (which is always a good use of energy....!).

And up pops the mushrooms that we see every fall, after a rain. These fungi are known as mycorrhizal fungi. They produce many of the delectable mushrooms we harvest in the fall, including chanterelles and king boletes.

This has nothing to do with AHFMD, but interesting nonetheless....
