Look at it this way, would you rather have your kid driving around in a car full or drunks, or a car full or snaggers? The whole point of laws is to prevent crime. You could impose the death penalty for any crime, theft, speeding, snagging, DWI. That sure as hell would cut down on crime, but is it right? Might sound like a good idea, but what if your wife or kid got caught snagging or driving drunk, and had 30 days in jail, lost all their rights, or some other unreasonable punishment? Not so sugar coated if it's happening to you.

I believe the punishment in Alaska for poaching big game is a 2000$ fine and the loss of any equipment used in the taking of the animal. Usually a gun, 4 wheeler, boat, that kind of stuff. Certainly not a house or unrelated vehicle though.

Guess I just can't understand why DUI'S and snagging fish have anything to do with each other... Maybe its because both are done by dumb asses... The topic was foul hooking fish but had a small side line that said I'm a redneck and I got a fishin question,,, Some time ago there was a thread about drinking and fishing.. look up those 50 replys and you will get a real feel how this board in general feels about the whole alcohol issue.. If you can't drink don't... And don't snag fish, if you want anyone to think you care.. '

I agree with you. It is so irritating to fight with all these un-ethical people who don't think twice about taking an illegal fish. Personally, on the inland rivers within the state of california, I think we need to encourage Fish and Game to enforce the laws in place. The first step should be to start nailing some of those "Guides" who are on the water 2 hours before legal fishing time and are putting fish in their clients ice-chests by ripping gibbs minnows from the bottom the river. I can't count the number of times fish swim either sideways or backwards into their nets and never find their way back to the water. Small steps. Turn some of these people in!!!!
