Hello Forum Members:
I am looking at different options to fly fish in Montana this spring 2015 in the Bozemen Livingston Area. Is it wise to buy a guided trip? What type of fish will I find there? Are there rainbows? All suggestions are welcome.

-Ryan

Ryan, every piece of moving water around there has trout in it...some cutthroat, big browns (though they will likely not be in the rivers too much in the spring)...but mostly rainbows, and nice ones at that.

When I started fishing over that way I found the flyshops in the area to be great resources for both where to give it a shot, and what flies to make sure you have in your box.

Guided trips are always the quickest and easiest way to get some good local knowledge, but if you are good enough at reading water and casting then you will do just fine without them.

God's Country for trout fishermen, at least in my opinion.

Fish on...

Todd

They are fall spawners.

Where would you suggest fly fishing for trout in Montana? What time of year would you suggest?

Friends and I had a 6 section hunting lease out of Emigrant MT back in the late 70's till late 80's. The lease included a house that 6 of us shared right on the Yellowstone and while hunting was great fishing for large browns during the Fall was even better! Had some remarkable days in the Fall back there fishing! Checkout www.dan-bailey.com for openers as I smile typing this tonight filled with GREAT memories on the beautiful Yellowstone! PM me for additional info if so inclined!
