I admit that over the past year I've quietly been using Vision hooks from time to time with no problems. I thought that I'd found a way to save a few bucks by not buying Gamakatsu hooks. The other night I went to OE and bought 200 5/0 Visions for an upcoming trip to Alaska. Tonight while tieing leaders I discovered three defective hooks. the first one was the last one left in a 50 box. the next box had two, and the other two boxes are going in the garbage! all three hooks that were defective had blunt points. like a dull pencil. I should've known that it was too good to be true, and now I have to stand up and say "stick to those gammies!"

You know, I can't help but wonder why you directed this post at Superfly. He is only a rep as far as I know. I have not used Vision hooks, but have had my share of SNAPPED Gami's. I still use them, but all hooks will have a defect sooner or later. There is no such thing as perfect. Just my opinion, and you know what they say about those.

Erik, you paid 75% less than you would have for Gamis and had 3% bad hooks. What is your problem. Did you expect perfection? You get what you pay for, in your case it seems you got more than what you paid for. Personally I use Gami hooks, but the Vision hooks are 1/4 the price, what did you expect

Guys,
A while ago I received 3 packages of Vision hooks, sizes 4, 2, and 1/0. All of the above were as good as Gamy's! I am not just saying this. Maybe I got the best of the best from Vision, but they were as strong and as sharp, if not sharper! How many of you have gotten free sample packs from Gamakatsu just to try them out? I know I own my own tackle business and use there hooks in my products and they would give me [Bleeeeep!]! Why should they have to though? They have a great name for themselves and they worked hard to get that name. I feel that Vision with a little work could be up there with Gamakatsu in a few years exspecially with there prices. When I started my company I built a product first and then asked myself how much will it cost after I had the best product I was capable of. A little something to think about!

That's the risk with buying the bulk packs for a per-hook reduced price. The odds are that there will be a few defective ones. I use gammies exclusively and must admit that they have had their share of defective hooks in their 25 and 100-pack hooks. These defects include dulled points and, more frequently, hook eyes not closed all the way. Inspect each hook thoroughly before tying one on. This includes all brands: Gamakatsu, Vision, Daiichi, etc. that claim they are sharp out of the package.

I guess in the past I've just been lucky, but I never had a defective Gamakatsu nor did I have one fail me. I admit that spinners are my bread n butter and that I don't use drift gear as much as many of you, but I have bought, tied, and used my share. Last night upon finding two packs with defects I couldn't help but remember back to this years sportsman expo. I listened to Joe badmouth Gamies for 20 minutes, and specificaly proclaim Vision hooks "perfection" and "the hooks of the future"
Sorry if I've hurt any feelings...it's not my intention but I couldnt let that one slide

I agree w/ the responses here...nothing is perfect. We used to use a lot of John's Jigs when fishing for steelhead and they are tied w/ Gammi hooks. After breaking 5 (yes, that's five) Gammis in one season, we switched to tying our own jigs using Vision hooks. We have never had a Vision hook break, even when we used them for tuna and pargo in Mexico last month.

I can recall a few blunt point Gammi hooks in some packages as well as "filled in eyes" on some so you couldn't run a leader through the eye. I think we just ran into a bad batch of Gammi's because I still think Gammi makes a good hook too.
