I only own one for now, but soon I plan on buying an 1141 IMX or GL3. For now I have a SJR700, it is a little 5'10" rod rated for 4-8 pound line. It is in GL3.
I am curious, being a new Loomis owner, what the different graphites are best for.

Cant go wrong with a Loomie. I've been using the same GL2 for 4 years now, never had any problems. I imaging the GL3's are even better. For a good all around rod, go with a GL2 - less expensive too!

Hey troutboy, I use a G-Loomis GL2 HSR 932C. It is a 7'9" casting rod designed for hot shots out of a boat. HSR=Hot Shot Rod. It is Mag-Heavy, Ex Fast Action, 12-25 lbs. It works for most salmon steelhead fishing from a boat. However, it's not a good rod from the bank. Looking for a good drift rod for salmon now. I have a berkley IM7 Air that I use for steelhead drifting. I love it. I prefer it to the lamiglass 1000 series rods I've used. Just my 2 cents worth. Any body recommend a Loomis for salmon drift fishing?

The 1141 is an excellent choice. I use mine year around as my primary drift fishing rod when the water is medium to low and clear. I bought mine as a blank however, and built it as a casting rod as Loomis only offers it as a spinning rod.....a sad decision on their part! Good rod though.

I'm really considering getting a baitcaster of some sort when I buy a heavier salmon rig, maybe a Calcutta.

Darkwon, IM7 the same quality as a Loomis? You must actually be confusedwon! Yeah, they are twice the price but ten times as nice. And yes, I am very familiar with the Berkley IM7 rods.

I have a GL2 HSR1025 which is a great boat rod for pulling plugs. But I have a GL3 st1025c and a GL3 st1025s GLX 1141 GL3 1143 and a GL2 1082. It all depends on what you are going to use the rod for.Myself if I wanted an all around rod for lots of different uses I would go with a ST 1025.I wouldnt buy a 1141 for witer steel its just to light and has NO backbone for larger fish.

I think the best drift fishing salmon rod is the ST1025C it's an 8'6" (10-17) fast action rod. The ST 1143 is also a very nice rod and at 9'6" 8-12 it fishes a little heavier than that. As for a boat rod the HS 981C is by far and away my favorite boat rod. TH www.thcustomrods.com

The 1143 is a 6-12 and does fish alot heavier. I use mine for Kings and Chum and have yet to have a problem.Landed a 32# king on it last year.It took 5 big runs and was a little tough to get turned around but was all fun.
