So I Finally had a chance to get out to the coast last weekened and pry around for a fish. River blew out Friday night, so we did a scouting trip in search of steelhead and Sasquatch Saturday, waiting for the river to drop back in Sunday.

15 minutes into our float I latched into a fish. At first I called it out at 7-9 pounds. You know, it dogged a bit, couldnt really see it, but generally didnt put up to much of a bitch fest. Got it close, and the fish Saw Ripleys ugly mug with net in hand, and ripped off 40 yards in 5 seconds. Nope, it isnt a 9 pounder!

Played it back in and this is the result:

A solid class of 2015 fish to be proud of for a guy who hasn't had too much steelhead fishing time this year.

While on our trip we tested the new RVRFSHR worms on all drift fishing rigs. The new pattern is roughly 5-6 inches, and has a the perfect salt/fresh rubber concoction that fishes really well. White painted/dipped tails which match well with the dibblers. I only ripped one worm the entire day of drift fishing, which is a first for me. The worms you don't break off, which occasionally get scrunched, keep fishing strong through the scrunching.

a quick closeup, and off it swam:

So I know some of you have been fishing, lets see your class of 2015 fish!

Nice fish.

Nicer lookin' worm setup.

One of my favorite winter steelhead flies is a red/white combo crawdad.

Evolution has created an opposing toe foot,a rather bowlegged creature that that talks a lot and wears a leather hat.

I caught a 15 pounder a few days back. Biggest dirty diaper I've ever seen.

Haven't ventured out of the great white north yet this winter for fishing. That will be changing as of this weekend. Stay tuned.

Hope to catch a fish or two with Stam mid week next week. Have yet to wet a line in 2015. I'm way too busy raising my kids and being an awesome dad to fish. Soccer, school, baseball, music, swimming, etc, etc, etc. Oh, and maybe throw in a date or two for the Jackhammer.

I might have a life again when they graduate from high school.

But, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

He was the lucky one to land a nice nate, I lost my only opertunity of the season so far. He has been doing good this season with 2 nates to hand on flies, hopefully it will continue on some coastal rivers!!!! Hopefully work and weather will give me a shot in March and April!

There's some nice fish around this year...who's been out fishing? Here's a few more recent alumni:

The fish above that Todd is holding was probably one of the hardest fighting bucks I've ever caught. Very strong and full of vigor, just like you hope they'll be. If you catch one fish in a day, let it be one like this...

Not one of my greatest shots as I was flying solo but this one taped out a little over 40". No girth measurement as I wanted to get him on his way but he was a bruiser. On my first cast my float went under as soon as it touched water; swing and a miss. Second cast I was ready.

He was one of those bucks that grew as the fight went on. I was a little nervous as I never retied my leader from the trip before that involved beating some serious brush.

Had the steelhead shakes after we parted ways. Ended up just sitting on the bank for twenty minutes and watched the sun come up over the trees...

A recent very healthy wild buck. Put the wind back in my sails. 30+ years of taking pics fishing solo and I still struggle with that special photo when light, water, angle and fish all cooperate. Avg. pic but a great battle.

P.S. Brad, that sunrise shot is money! Nice pic.

I like that stout pig, Luis, but I can't imagine a cameraman doing a better job of sabotaging a pic.

Brad's sunrise pic is awesome, especially given the fact it was taken after releasing a mean 20!

Hey now! It was a brand new phone that I hadn't taken any pics with and the sun blacked out the screen so I couldn't see crapola. And there are other pics of that fish & Equinox which are ok, not great - but at least you can see his face! rofl

Nice fish guys - keep em' coming...

HAR-D-HAR! I actually missed it (or its close, personal friend) the first time the bobber went down, but was fortunate enough to stick it good on a follow-up pass.
