A couple of weeks ago a friend attempted to float the satsop from decker down and there is a tree all the way across in some fast water. The boat flipped and he lost a lot of gear. Handful of rods, oars, tackle bags ect... A bank angler found some stuff and told another angler he did who told my friend... But we don't have a name or a way to contact this unknown angler. If anyone knows who found the gear or any info about it please let me know!

The boat needs some repair and no one was hurt too bad. 2 guys jumped and the rower/ boat owner got pinned and was under for awhile.

As far as I know the tree is still there so everyone be safe!

We came down Decker Creek minutes right after it happened. We talked to the guys who had walked back up to the bridge and were soaking wet. Guy gave me his business card and asked that I call him if we find any of his stuff. Surprisingly we didn't see anything but did find the boat about 1/4 downstream of Decker Creek upside down in the shallows.

There is a log that goes across the entire width of the creek right at the mouth where it dumps into the Satsop. The guys had mentioned they thought they could float over it, and as it showed they couldn't. You must portage and have to pull the boat up onto the gravel bar and drag it to the mainstem of the river (about 50 feet or so if I remember).

Glad to see they made it out alive at least. They got lucky. It could have been a lot worse. Don't ever try to float over logs.

Good luck,

Matt

I found a rod and reel on Thursday in about 6 feet of water below the West Fork. Long ways from Decker Creek, but if he can describe what I netted off the bottom I will get it back to him/them if it is theirs or anyone else who may read this who lost one recently.

Several responses from folks describing rods they recently lost, not what I found. But makes a guy think about how much good gear recently went overboard in the Satsop!

I've heard of a few guys losing gear this season due to drunken fishing practices...

I know a guy who says he found 2 plug rods between the S - turns and the middle fork. I'll get his phone number the next time I see him and send it your way Scrimps.
