So last fall I flipped over my 12' Starcraft aluminum boat and the gunwale got trapped between some metal on the trailer.
Popped some rivets and I've been unable to figure out a way to fix this myself.

Anyone know of a shop (or person) that could help me out? Boat is sentimental, grandpa bought it, passed it down to my dad, and now it's mine.

1. get a piece of 2 x 4

2. good size hammer

3. Make sure you have the right size rivets and rivet gun

4. Start at one end.....pound, pound, pound until the holes line up.....put a rivet in.

5. repeat # 4, until you get to the other end.

I'm thinking that it will look OK.....probably good enough for you to hand down...

Good luck.......

Oh my 1st boat was a 14' StarCraft......that boat covered lot's of Chehalis, Wynoochee, some Humptulips, river water....lot's of lake waters in Washington State and in BC......more than a few times a leaky rivet got replaced. Good old boat, bought new in 1974 - sold in 1992 for way more than I paid for it.

Called 3 places, 2 said it wasn't something they'd be interested in (probably too small a job). And another didn't pick up...

If I were to attempt to repair that, I would consider cutting out the worst damaged section of gunnel, then take that section to a sheet metal shop and have them bend you a up a new piece longer than the removed part so that it overlaps the original gunnel then you can slide it over or under the original section first forward the aft, or vice versa. When you plan your repair consider that it would be wise to have the repaired areas end with rivets, where it attaches to the hull and on the outside of the gunnel.

Or you could remove the entire gunnel and attempt to repair it. I think that it could be repaired if it were removed, but it would not be easy even if it was removed.

I'd take your photo down to one of those shops and see if one of the guys would like to make a little weekend or after work cash...
