I am going to Seward and Cordova in 8 days for 10 days. The first part of the trip on a 43ft boat but the second 5 days is sightseeing and camping in that area. It would be nice to camp along some rivers and catch a few fish. Any suggestions? I would really like to catch a few big Alaska Rainbows. also there are a few creeks on Montague Island and a smaller island to the S.E. any information on these?

Are you driving to Seward? I'm trying to signal Bob to see if he can help you out. I know you want to fish, but get the earthquake history on Seward - it makes seeing the place much more interesting- and when you're in Seward, look up and see the tallest mountain area. We watched people race up that mt. one year and it is an event that I think takes place every year. I'm short on time or I'd try to be more accurate.

I think the Island that you're referring to is Green Island. Actually, these two ports are a fair distance apart, so there's a lot of country inbetween, and it's an area that I'm not terribly familiar with. You're likely going to be pretty early for silvers in the freshwater, but there will plenty available in the salt, especially around Resurrection Bay with the huge number of hatchery fish returning to the Seard fishery.

For the trout, it's probably going to be in your best interest to get into the Upper Kenai for some big trout when you're on the Seward side. Typically, for the huge 'bows, you need some streams with large runs of reds to provide the heavy forage base to grow the big 'uns ... the Kenai has that, and perhaps some of the smaller streams along the way will have it to some degree as well ... but none that I know of. Perhaps try posting at: http://alaskaoutdoorjournal.com/cgi-bin/ucgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=The+Fishin|APO|+Hole&number=3&DaysPrune=&LastLogin=

and Klondike Kid may be of some more help as it sounds like he gets to play and explore a little more than I Have fun!
