So I'm thinking these might work Frozen. I might even try them in the prawn pots.

Anyone use the guts? These are just hot water washed to remove the shell ???

I often use butters and horse clams; extras get frozen for later use. I wouldn't go through the pain of digging if they didn't produce. Just be sure your bait holder prevents the crab from stripping that soft bait; maybe add something with a bit more substance to keep them interested.

I like the idea of using this as bait.

I save all my clam guts for crab bait. I have several bait jars that I fill, bag in a ziplock and freeze. A bait jar usually has a combo of chicken fat/blood/guts, herring, clam guts and usually some cod.

Commercial crabbers use clams as bait all the time.

Yes works quite well! If you have a small razor or a cracked shell just freeze it and toss the whole clam in frozen it'll thaw and they'll love it! Clam necks are one of the most natural food sources for them. Doubt a puget sound crab has ever had tuna in his daily diet
