Here's what I'm looking for.

A lake within an hour or so of Kirkland/Bellevue/Redmond, that feels mostly undeveloped and has a few trout in it for my 3 year old.

I'm thinking something a little more adventurous than Cottage Lake. He loves hiking through the woods and in the mountains. The only problem is he just turned 3 which means dad carries him a lot on long hikes.

Any good ideas for fairly low elevation trout lakes that are off gravel roads or include a short hike or that you can hike around? Anyone ever try Lake Langlois?

Not really the rural setting you are looking for, but you might want to consider Gissberg Ponds in Arlington.
There aren't any houses around the ponds. They are tree lined and have trails around them.
The north pond is juvenile only.
Easy in, easy out if he gets tired, hungry etc.....
Have fun,
SF

Gissberg Ponds is a good suggestion.

other potential lakes that might fit your needs include flowing at the county launch or maybe Rattlesnake near North Bend? Rattlesnake might not be the best choice for shore fishing but has a nice trail heading up to the bluff above the lake the end of the ridge and as the lake drops there are plenty of shoreline and stumps to explore.

Come down to Elma and fish the Vance Creek pond.

I always use my pontoon boat on Langlois, but there is a trail (I think) on the left side of the boat access ramp. I have seen some teenagers fishing off logs lying in the water there, but don't know what the trail is like.

There is very limited access on Langlois as much of it is private including the Girl Scout Camp.

Fishing off the shoreline may be difficult due to so many downed trees being in the water on the west side of the lake, but you might check it out.

There are also some largemouth bass in Langlois that can be caught from shore on the west side.

I understand that Langlois received a planting of steelhead smolts that were diverted from PS rivers.

Another option I would recommend is Lake Tye in Monroe. It is a suburban setting, but there is a paved trail that runs around the lake and WDFW put 10,000 steelhead smolt in last fall and they get a plant in the Spring, plus TU Chapter 654 put somewhere over 4,000 catchables plus some Triploids in the five to six pound range in the lake for the kids derby last weekend.

There is also a play ground for kids and some fast food places close by.

If you do Tye, you could hike from the parking lot to the west side of the lake and fish from the bank there. It would be about an 8th of a mile.

The winning fish for the Kids Derby was 6.4 pounds.

Hope this helps.

Deep Lake between Cumberland and Enumclaw might be one to check out. Nolte State Park is on it, but might not be open now, as it is a seasonal, day use only park. Easy walking trail goes around the lake, with fishing access readily available. It's a Discover Pass site.

Here's a link with some park pictures: http://washingtonstateparkstour.com/2013/08/22/nolte-state-park/
