Working from memory here, buyer beware... The original Okie Drifter was made by Maxwell Manufacturing, of Vancouver, WA. Some older packaging is labeled, "Okie Drifter/Maxwell Manufacturing". Other packages carry the Grizzly Tackle brand name, but the lures were still a Maxwell product. Luhr-Jensen must have acquired the original Okie Drifter from Maxwell in the early/mid seventies because fishing publications from that time period advertise the "Luhr-Jensen Okie Drifter". Some other iconic originals acquired by Luhr-Jensen included the Les Davis salmon dodger and the Eddie Pope Hot Shot.

This link gives some good insight and history concerning changes in the local fishing tackle manufacturing industry:

I simply think the okies for what ever the manufacturer of that 70/80s all were great. then suddenly craps hit the fans and they were never the same. those Styrofoam knock offs were garbage. the colors were the true secret. I was told the okies in orygone cheese are worth gold along with the nail polish pink.

The following was purchased by myself, late 60 or early 70's.

Sammi Special was used by many of the guys I fished with....no messy hands.....AND THEY WORKED GOOD. Made me a good fishermen, but then there were lot's of wild and hatchery steelhead, in those years.

Steely Bobs were also good......those are Flash Glo's on the left hand card.....Flash Glo's had a price of $.69 and $.59 but were on sale for $.39

If any one is interested in buying all of these...9 Sammy Special, 4 Steely Bob, and the 11 Flash Glo.....send me a pm or else just wait until I die and be 1st at the garage sale......lmao

I was a hardware fisherman back in the late 70[s early 80's and fished strickly an Acme Brass and Red Striped Wonderlure. I knew the manufacture'rs rep and bought 18 dozen for $45 one year. I still have a bunch in my stash.

My worst fear is that when I die my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it.
