Got one for you all:
I'm using a boat that has a 70hp Yamaha, prop driven. It's had a crack in the lower unit, in the casing back by where the prop
connects to the drive shaft. A new lower units costs around $800. I'm not having much luck finding a used lower unit. I'm wondering if I could have it welded? I know it's not the preferred method, but I've seen it done on other boats. Can anyone suggest someone who has actually done this kind of welding? Or other suggestions?
And no, I didn't hit anything or crack the lower unit. The owner's son thought he was driving the Miss Bud in shallow water.

Thanks Doug, I think I found the place you were referring to, Seattle-Propeller: http://www.seattle-propeller.com/

Let me know if that rings a bell. How much did they charge you? Just curious, again, thanks!
