Civilians may not be allowed to own drones in 5 years. Too many idiots in the general population; too many close calls with commercial aircraft; too many privacy concerns and too many terror applications. Owning one is not protected by any right that I know of, so can only imagine where this will be headed.

As usual, the FAA is years behind the market in getting regulations in place. It was the same deal when GPS became available for civilian use.

There will be a serious incident involving a drone pretty soon, then everyone in the agency will act all surprised and the public will demand some kind of regulations about how/where/who can operate a drone when all that sh!t should already be in place.

Quadcopters are cheap, 30-300 bucks, some can fly with your smart phone...

Hexi's/Octo's/and even the larger Tri's for one that actually works, will cost you a minimum of 1k, usually refurbished... new ones are around 1500, thats without a remote, you use your standard Futaba or the likes multichannel flight twin stick remotes, that are about 300 bucks to 1k themselves...

hence why "most" everyone else has the Quad's....

How cool would it be to have a drone with a camera that can be submerged in to the water to scope out fishing holes below you in a drift boat.

putting a pole into water thats flowing rapidly attatched to a 2000 dollar machine that weights as much as your monitor is a bad idea...

most all the nicer ones have Go Pro mounts, and some have the screens built into the controllers that come in the RTF's, expensive tho.... you crash that thing in a river, you just lost a minimum 1500... some of them are upwards of 8-10 grand....

Motors, of any kind, are not allowed at the SRC.

Besides, Carl and Dogfish would gladly take care of any and all drones at the SRC......

Personally, I'm not in to that technology. Although, I really want to order up a box of shotgun shells from Amazon Prime, have it drone delivered to me at the shooting range, only so I can shoot down the drone with the ammo the drone just delivered. It would be worth it.
