I am starting this post because it is taking too long to load the other one, and I have changed my opinion since it began. I stated in the other post that although I am a republican, I would not vote for Slade. I live about five minutes away from the Elwah river and I am very dissapointed that he is dragging out the already funded removal. At the same time he claims to be pro salmon,(that have no place to spawn in the Elwah). Although this bothers me no end I have been re-exposed to the alternative I had closed my eyes to. I have very strong political and moral views, and I have to weigh both sides. After doing this it is painfully clear that for me Slade would be better than the alternative. It's alot deeper than just dams for me.

It's a lot deeper than that to a lot of us, but if you're at all concerned with a liveable environment I would reconsider voting for Slade. I've always felt that voting for or against an individual made a lot more sense than voting for that individual's party affiliation. Slade Gorton has consistently legislated against those matters that affect me as a fisherman and as a person who is concerned with environmental issues. I don't suppose that it will have any great impact on your choice, but I can hardly imagine anyone who would be a worse choice to represent the people of Washington state, particularly the sportsmen, than Slade Gorton.

Democrat, Repulican, Conservative..not much difference... It would be nice to have a new, fresh choice.. Like, maybe someone stand right up to the plate and be an American, uphold the Constitution made by and for Americans. Just quit the back scratching, voting up their own pay , and work for the people.

Thanks again to all whom have responded. But again i urge all to vote in november and let this single dividing thread rest in peace. You will not change mind nor i yours opinion of whom should or should not be elected. And guess what, that is what polictical forums are for, not this board.
thanks

Well personaly i've had enough of this subject, but as for elmtree and fishstick, you guys click on a political post, and then complain you have had enough of the politics, and it should go somewhere else? Don't click on it! Then it won't bother you.

Elmtree- I beg to differ. This kind of discussion is exactly what we as a group need. I have learned a lot for reading all of this. Some of us haven't made up our minds and need to hear all sides. Now, I have heard lots of info on dams... I lived in the tri cities for the last 13 years and have fished around the snake river dams frequently during that time. They are destroying the runs, period. Why?? choose your answer... 75 degree water temperature, no current, tons of predator fish (LARGE sturgeon, bass, walleye, pikeminnow, perch, catfish, etc...) sitting below the ladders and assorted fish paths, nitrogen, and pollution (barge and boat traffic). Remove them and the fish will return. Now, my view is not a popular one over there. I had many discussions with co-workers and other fisherman who are dam advocates. They are raised to believe dams must stay or the tri-cities will vanish from the face of the earth... (amazing if you consider that the area is built around a nuclear power site sitting at a standstill.) Take look at the upper snake in southeast Idaho. It has some of the best trout water in america. The entire river has the potential to be an incredible fish producer. Keep the dams and the fish will continue to disappear.

Those who don't think politics has a place on a fishing b.b. and want nothing but fun tackle tech talk just remember that it's politics that decide what does or doesn't get done to recover the long term health of our fish runs. It's politics that determines who catches which fish. I don't really understand all the griping about not having any fish and how the sportsman gets screwed at every turn, but by golly, enough of this political talk. I think this is a good place to hash things out. I have learned alot from this site and even had some of my opinions changed. As for Slade, I don't have enough money to pay him to get what I want done.
