Well, since the Steelhead fishing is going in the tank in this state, I've decided to pursue the next best thing of the 4 legged type. My son and I have made the decision to do it by bow. We've been practicing for months now and I am chomping at the bit to stick something. My brother has a 3 point Mule in his pasture every morning and I plan on inviting him over for dinner come Tuesday morning. He also has a herd of Elk that cross his place daily and on the 12th, I'm hoping to get a shot at one of them too! My point of this whole thing is, I never dreamed I would hunt and now I'm like a kid the night before Christmas. I can't believe the amount of money I've spent in the last 6 months getting completely set up for this along with getting my son through the Hunter Training course and since I've never hunted, I took the course with him even though I didn't have to. I can't wait.

Teach him to respect the animals and all that you encounter while in the outdoors.

It is not a right but a freedom we earn through continued respect to nature and the animals that we share it with.

You are raising a man.

The reward is in the experience.

I wish you both the best of luck.

That's great Craig, you guys are going to love it. Were you guys able to shoot any 3D's this spring or summer? Great way to get an idea of your max range you should be taking shots at animals.

Have fun. Hopefully Hunter and I will get our first bow kills this season.

Good for you and your son! You'll be instantly addicted and I wish you nothing but success. Learn your max range and don't go past it regardless of the temptation. It would be horrible for your team to wound an animal when you are first starting out.

If you think bow hunting is expensive now, wait until you get into long range boom sticks. eek2

Adult crack I tell ya!

That first time you heard the thwack of the string and the thump of the arrow hit the target I bet you realized our brains are hard wired to hunt with bows smile.

At least that's how it played out for me!

You just don't know the right kind of women.

Broodbuster, I know what you mean about the first time you shoot a bow. It was what I would compare to setting the hook on a fish. I was instantly hooked. I got my bow in June and I have shot everyday since. I haven't shot any 3d targets, but we have a 20 yard target in the back yard and from time to time I go down to the valley and practice at 30-40 yards and I think that's the furthest I would shoot. At 20 yards, I can keep 6 arrows in a group that I can get my index finger around to touch my thumb and I have small hands. And NO, it doesn't mean short manhood! I have ruined 2 good arrow sending the second down the shaft of the first! Pretty cool, but I don't like to ruin arrows cause I'm a cheap a$$. I spent quite a bit of time considering which bows to buy and I settled on a PSE Skunk Works for me and I bought my son a Infinite Edge for it was a fair priced and finding a left handed bow isn't easy. I looked at Mathews and thought they were just to much money. The animal doesn't care how much you spent on your bow…….does it?
