Would you rather the world markets buy from the House of Saud or Uncle Sam? We seem to want energy independence and a strong economy, but still suffer from the "not in my back yard" mentality. We can't have it both ways. Personally, I'm mostly opposed to the PNW terminals for selfish reasons (potential fish and marine impacts), but I also understand the opposite argument. It's a toughy to be certain.

Unless we are talking fish or oil of course.
Vote for what I say not what I do! But hey I got a free trip to Paris, got to hang out with the other beautiful people, and saved the world from the peasants! Yay!

Vote for what I say not what I do! But hey I got a free trip to Paris, got to hang out with the other beautiful people, and saved the world from the peasants! Yay! Yeah. Inslee talks a great game, but he understands the dynamics at play here very well, and he knows nothing will stop the money behind these projects. He's posturing WA to make MAXIMUM tax revenues from oil by rail. Once the revenue projections reach the magic number, the permits will be signed. I hope he sticks it to 'em good, because there's a high likelihood that we'll have at least one major mess to clean up by the time this thing's over, and that costs money. Lots of it. Need another reason to believe Inslee will cave? Consider that the Legislature still hasn't put a dent in the shortfall for the McCleary Act....

WA needs lots of money for McCleary, fixing the roads and infrastructure, floods, and so on. New sources of revenue need to be tapped in a big way.
