I saw there was a post in 2013 about downrigger clips to use for braided line. Has there been anything developed since then to effectively hold braided line?

Ive been very happy with the new Sams clips from Silver horde. Kelly gave me a half dozen last summer and I wont use anything else anymore. They are very similar to classic offshores but have a very compact design that has proven to provide a consistent release. I like them because due to their design they dont release prematurely when you really load up your rod on the clip. Give them a try:

Thanks SG. Is there a preferred lb. test of braided for use in downriggers?

I have very few problems with Scotty's releases with the bright yellow heads. You have to replace the head every so often.

As far as test for braid, I have used 50-60 for around 20 years. Probably have some left from that long ago on the bottoms of my Shimano knuckle busters wink

Found this stuff from China. Haven't used it yet but you can't beat the price. 1000yards $23.87 -

I also ordered 1500 yards of 200# Power Pro for my downriggers. $62.50 -

I like the Pro Release II made by Big C Tackle. They are spendy on the website. I buy them when they are on sale at the Sportsmans' show.

I'm using 60lb braid. They are adjustable. Set the desired tension for a rudder and cut plug, a lure, flasher como, or even halibut bait. applause
