So Obama released his budget for the next year. If it passes as is the national debt is projected to end up at $30 Trillion.

Riddle me this darksiders. If I gave you $22 Trillion (it was 8 when he took office) do you think you could prop up the economy?

And does anyone think we are going to pay it off?? And if not what? Default? What are the other options?

Or just double it again over the next 8 years? I really don't see either the R's or D's cutting back to start paying it off so just keep printing money?

And as a nation we can't afford any capital improvement or chip away at any of the NP backlog??

And why is there not a single peep during this election cycle? When Reagan upped it to $1 trillion that was pretty much the entire debate.

I'm no economist as this crap always makes absolutely no sense to me so I'm interested in what, if any, impact this has on the future US economy.

And finally with $22 Trillion being printed over the last 8 years how in the hell have I not gotten one single dime frown.

You're not supposed to point out that obongo sucks hindtit at least as bad as Bush and in most cases much worse. But the solution is simple....print more money and keep kicking the can down the road.

This liar in Chief makes Carter look Mensa like. What's three thousand Billion amongst friends. frown crazy

Little perspective:

Let’s Measure a Trillion in Time

How Long Ago Is a Trillion Seconds?

If you count backward, then:
1 million seconds = 12 days ago
1 billion seconds = 31 years ago
1 trillion seconds = 30,000 B.C.
(give or take a decade or two)

Let’s Measure a Trillion in Height

How high is a trillion in $1000 bills?

If you stack a trillion-worth of $1000 bills together, then:
1 million dollars = 4 inches high
1 billion dollars = 364 feet high
1 trillion dollars = 63 miles high
(give or take a foot or two)
Note that this is a STACK, not laid end-to-end.

I couldn't fix the economy, but if you gave it to me in one's, I could make 5 stacks that are high enough to reach the moon

So looking at Todd's chart it's not the $20 trillion that's the problem it's also that GDP is tanking at the same time. So if GDP grows relative to debt like it did in the '50-'80s we'll all be good. Got it!

I like to think of a trillion dollars like this. 999,999,999,999+1=1 trillion.

Just starting counting backwards, you'll get there in 30,000.00 BC.

The article Todd linked points out that, regardless of how the lower 95% make out, both parties cater to the needs of the richest Americans. That should make it abundantly clear who makes the vast majority of campaign contributions, who is effectively setting policy, and ultimately, who is to blame for the debt/GDP ratio. They're just doing what they're told, people.

So does that "J" shape curve begin with the Bush Administration or Citizens United?

As I look more and more at what the average job pays, and what that income will get me in the local economy, I realize more and more why young people are flocking to Bernie's message. Throughout history most generations can look forward to a life that is better than their parents. I am not sure for most in our country that this will be the case.

A two year degree in drafting technology, even today, can land you a hell of a career.

We are paying very well for fresh out of school drafters, but, knowledge of the software is a must...

You could not be much more wrong about that. I earn something close to that figure, with better benefits than most, yet my family lives virtually paycheck to paycheck, and my home is very humble. I think some of you guys are thinking in terms of what consumer goods and college cost 20 years ago (which was about half what they cost now). Also of note is that salaries have increased very little since the 1970s, relative to the rate of inflation. Like the Paul Simon song says, you were "born at the right time."

I'm not complaining... Hell, I live better than about 97% of the rest of the world. I'm just saying that I don't live like my parents did. We do have a lot more phones than my parents did. Of course, the bill is 5x as much....

just for starters:

65 for Internet
90 for TV
125 for 2 phones
10 for netflix
10 for hulu
??? going out

Part of the trouble with finding a job nowadays in our area is that everyone in our hemisphere wants to live in the PNW. Most of the jobs I have interviewed for, I was up against people who had flown from all over the country and they were usually very over qualified and guess what.....I didn't get the job. I think our area is an absolutely terrible place to get a career started in some fields we are well known for. You have to leave and pay your dues and than maybe you can make a step up. I am thinking about doing that but fear I can never get back here and I wont be able to help my parents in their old age which is very important to me after living with my grandma in the final year of her life when she was a widow and very senile.

There are plenty of places in this country to live and make ends meet but that is because people are leaving those places as fast as they can because they suck.

Some things we have more of than our parents but it certainly isn't more opportunity in our area. I am in my mid thirties and remember when Bellingham was like a ghost town and vacant houses and buildings were a normal thing. With my current wage I could have easily bought a dream home just 15 years ago and now that dream home is worth at least 2.5X what it was. The house I bought and lost in a divorce was sold to us by a man wishing to help my wife and I get our lives started. The seller had about a dozen cash offers of up to 10K more than ours made by "representatives" of the buyer. The seller loathed those representatives from Seattle. That is the PNW nowadays in a nutshell, it's going to be alien to me in another couple decades.

Jason,
I don't know what field it is that you are looking, I'm guessing computer technology. But I will say, as a hiring manager in my group (in engineering), I usually decline folks from out of town an interview, usually because they are either, as you say, overqualified, or are trying to escape an area that they have already burned all their bridges. Unless it is a management position, or we have no local applicants, we try to keep it local... so keep at it...

regarding making a nice life in the northwest... you can still buy a waterfront home in kitsap for less than the going rate for a dump in king county... Many companies in Seattle offer flexible work hours that allow you to work on the commute or at home and will even pay for your commute... In my case, I get both, so I'm essentially getting paid to work on the commute...

get in now where ever you can, because as sound transit expands and shortens commutes, house prices will go up.
