its not fast... fast is a 10 second car, this will run mid/high 14s if i try to blow it up, or 15 with an average driver... im beating most EPA standards in it, right about 16 mpg which is whats stated, 28 freeway... not bad for a 4100 pound car... ive had the MPG up to 18 but that was when i first got it...
300 HP/295 FTLBS Northstar, is/was one of the most powerful front wheel drive cars ever made... just now the last 2 or so years have they started making more FWD cars in the 300-+ range...
like i said tho i drive it like a granny, the power is there when i need it...

I remember some of those diesel rabbits would get around 55mpg on the freeway. Wish my truck got that. My folks hybrid Lexus gets 48 mpg on the freeway and 48 in town. A full tank would get them close to San Fran.

I bought a 1980 Rabbit Diesel coupe from a hulk hauler for $50. He dropped it off the hook in my parking lot, I put new rings and bearings in it and did a valve job on it, a new battery and a few days later I was driving it. At that time I lived a little more that three miles from work. I could fill the tank for $10 and drive it to and home from work for three weeks on that $10 fill up, and it was fun to drive. We had it for about four years before a slight leak in the windshield ruined the fuse panel, and the lights, heat and wipers got a little more than sketchy so it went away one sunny day.
