Has anyone fished or know of anyone who has fished the Skagit from Marblemount to Rockport at all lately? Any reports?

The only ones fishing the Skagit since it closed are the poachers, and they don't usually post their trip results here.

Yeah, but decades ago I knew Bios who could find out how the (closed) fishing was even though the wardens could never find a violator.

Oh I didn't know it was closed, I was just looking for something to fish for this weekend. Maybe I will hit up a lake nearby and see if any bass are moving on to their spawning beds.

Well that would be true, had I said I fished the river and tried to use that excuse.

I'd have to confirm it, but I believe the Skagit is still open for Dolly/Bull trout. At the moment the river is pretty much blown out, so wait a few days for it to settle back in.

GoldDigger,

Call Mill Creek and verify. As with most seasons, the river is closed to fishing Jan. 31, except for the reach between Rockport and Marblemount, which closes Feb. 15. I asked previously about keeping the river open to bull trout fishing and was told no, because over 90% of the anglers claiming to be fishing for bull trout would be targeting steelhead, even for CNR. I don't disagree. Viable fisheries are allowed to be open so long as listed fish are not "targeted" and any that are incidentally caught are immediately released unharmed, provided the encounter rate remains below the threshold specified as necessary for conservation. But so far, it's a no go.

To be honest I just wanted to get a line in the water soon, I will be moving out of state and I am kind of in my last window to catch some fish in WA.
