i had to go out to a guys house to pick up a rod yesterday, and he had some cool gear around too, most of which was for stuff i didnt do but i grabbed a few things while i was there....

these are hand crafted hand painted, wood plugs made in Canada, pretty cool lookin i think

couple of these, everyone knows what they are...

what i dont know, and am hoping someone here may as i forgot to ask him, is what these are... they are called Beanie Bobbers, i cant find any on the net or anything about them, i guess they were similar to a ray/cherry bobber if i remember correctly, some have weird pegged props on them tho, you can remove the peg or slide your line through.... anyone heard of or used these?

I believe the first four pictures are Lyman's and the other plug Might be a Tomic.

Loc: out there...
We used to use one like the first pictured for chinook, but ours had a hole for the leader to pass through. I think they were called J plugs.

Good find,

the small plug is a Tomic, #158 to be exact.... says made in Canada under the bill, and 158 inside... got some Silver Horde 3's too that are similar....

Lyman, ill do some looking, he said something to me about plugs that was 5/7 7/11 or something that was the ought hook you use.... i wont be trolling these soon so im not worried but it was interesting...

the rod i picked up was a Lami Vedder 10-20 10'6", should be a fun stick, have some ideas...

From what I know, if you wanted to row Tyee Pool but didn't have the money for a Lucky Louie, these were the go to plugs. They catch fish but apparently not as well as a shovel and lack the historical appeal. The guys from the Pool are traditionalists and adhering to historical technique is part of the rules.

Check out the picture gallery at the Tyee Club. I was only born half a century too late.

Some pigs in there!! Love the pick of Grandma with a slab. The current pics are sad in comparison (even though they're all 30 lbs +) and a reflection of what our fish runs have become. Had lunch with an old guy who used to fish it in the late '40s and he had some great stories!

When downriggers first hit the sound in the '70s we used plugs almost exclusively and they were deadly on kings and silvers alike!
