Saw this on another site.

Good deal that all made it. Nice job by the USGC. Unbelievable they were able to get out a mayday.

I'm surprised everyone survived after being in the water an hour. That seems like a long time for a response, I would have expected something around half that time, at least for the helicopter.
That details of that story, from how much warning they had to how long it took to be rescued, makes a good argument for having an emergency life raft.

You have flight time from Port Angeles for the chopper. Sounds like they were drifting from the time of the original call. I'm going to guess response time for the 47 out of Neah Bay is probably 20 minutes plus - have to man the vessel and head out and then get in the area of the distress call and start looking.

They were lucky. Life jackets/vests are best worn at all times. Glad they all made it home and were able to recover their vessel.

I think the life raft is a good idea. I put a self releasing one my boat last year. 52 degree water that's tuff to survive. At least their boat stayed above water and they had something to hang on to until help arrived.
