I copy and pasted below, the latest news email that I get. Come on up and visit your neighbors this summer.

Spring Chinook hit the North Island in Huge Schools!!!

Chinook- The vanguard of the massive run hit Ferrer Pt., Beano Creek & Maquinna Pt. Monday May 23. These Springs/Kings, we are told by DFO Science, are in the majority hatchery marked fish from the Pudget Sound area. These 14 – 26lb Springs will remain in our area until well into mid to late June feeding on the spawning squid and needle fish/sand lances. There is lots of bait around so these fish will be around until they have the urge to move south to their spawning grounds. By mid-June our West Coast Vancouver Island (WCVI) Chinook will be here. Yes, the WCVI Spring will be in EPIC numbers. In fact, the Esperanza Inlet and Nootka Sound Runs are going to be TWICE the average year run size. On an average year 100,000 springs enter our local waters. This season we will see over 200,000 returning to our local waters. This year’s run will also be made of a large # of 4yr. old fish. Which means we will see lots of Tyee (30+lb) on the Marina cleaning tables this season.

Uh, the timing of this invitation and especially the reference to Puget Sound origin fish is "unfortunate."

Least they're honest. Come on up here to Maple-leaf Land and catch the fish you're not allowed to fish for at home.

Tahsis baby! I've fished out of John's resort and had a good time. As an American, I don't worry too much about the whole "interception" thing, the way I figure, it's already baked into the front end of the process through the Pacific Salmon Treaty. At least the Canucks are collecting the coded wire tag data with the head return thing.

Totally agree unfortunately! 2 Alaska trips planned this year so far and thinking of an early Sept trip to upper Vancouver Island to do 2 days in the salt and two in a river for Northern Coho! Time is ticking away for this old guy so may as well enjoy what time is left! Been around long enough to know that good years and bad years happen but with the Stilly in my backyard and the Skagit in the fall is church for me and with those "missing" this year it's tearing me up!

I didn't mean to rub salt in any wounds. I am just the messenger here, and after all the Alaskans get first kick at the Canadian fish.
I am more interested in harvesting strong stocks like Nootka where the enhancement program chinook have been in abundance because of efforts and management. We can only hope that all of the salmon bearing rivers, both Canadian and American, saw similar success.
