So I haven't posted in awhile... And I apologize for posting a rant but...

This is the new regs for below Bonnevile

Daily bag limit: Daily salmonid limit is 6 fish (hatchery chinook or hatchery steelhead), of which no more than two may be adult chinook or steelhead, and no more than one may be an adult chinook. Release all wild chinook and wild steelhead. Salmon minimum size: 12 inches.

We actually PAY people to write that $h!t?

My third grade granddaughter could have done it with half the words and made it clearer.

I agree....."Wow'em with [Bleeeeep!] and confuse them with the same [Bleeeeep!]"..I'm thinking there must be 100's of hours spent trying to keep the taxpaying general public at a confused, frustrated state of mind.

I'll take a crack...

Daily bag limit: Daily salmonid limit is 6 hatchery chinook or hatchery steelhead, of which no more than two may be adult, and no more than one may be an adult chinook. Release all other salmonids. Salmon minimum size: 12 inches.

The more I read it, the more **cked up it is.

By defining salmonids as (only) hatchery chinook and steelhead they have closed pink, chum, coho, and sockeye. Which may be the intent but they should be clearer. I think MPM said it well. A steelhead is defined, I believe, as a rainbow over 20" so this particular reg does not deal with juvenile steelhead (trout).

And a bunch of the regs read like this especially when they publish emergency rules.

I just gripes me that we pay people to write these and they end up looking like the person who wrote them this is their first time ever dealing with the English language.

2016-2017.......WDFW did go back to the alphabetic listing of rivers and lakes in Western Washington.......this gets a "gold star", it really was a pain in the a$$ to find, quickly, a river the way the 2015-2016 pamphlet was written.

Under the "Definitions" section Salmonids is defined as "Fish of the family salmonidae, includes: salmon, trout and whitefishes." So the wording would seem to also eliminate whitefish. Was that their intent?

I actually think the wording is okay although the other versions work too. My observation is that when they provide a minimum size for one of the harvestable species they should concurrently do so for the rest; that is, include the 20 inch minimum for steelhead.

Edit: Should be interesting to read the public's proposed salt water rule changes when they are published for general review and comment.

But by including only hatchery steelhead and chinook in the parenthesis they excluded the other salmon, all the trout, and whitefish.

I suspect the reg was written by a salmon manager who did not realize that trout were salmonids. Or that there were other salmon as the goal was to fish hatchery chinook and steelhead.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

What? Some people are book smart, but have no good sense and sound judgment in practical matters? LOL

They probably gave it to an attorney to tweak .......

Actually, they did better when they had an attorney help write the WACs and rules. Forced them to write what they exactly meant. Got rid of him.

They also did away with the support for the Aquatic Education program at local schools. Volunteer instructors taught about regulations, size limits, species identification, and fishing ethics.

wonder what the thought process is, "hey, let's pay someone $250 so we can fish 50 feet from the parking lot!"

same goes for most guides down there that pound the quarter mile around the boat launch.
