Hi all.

I have the opportunity to stay on Skagit waterfront this weekend on a place about half way between Concrete and Sedro-Woolley

I'll probably bring the medium weight fly gear and fish off the beach where we're staying for a couple hours before the rest of the family wakes up.

Any info on what species are being fished right now would be sincerely appreciated.

Thank you!

Mike

Sockeye are running NOW on the Skagit anywhere below Concrete. From the shore plunking is the way to actually catch one- tho you might have a chance with fly gear. Definitely some sockeye in the river

Well, if it's open for trout, i have to CnR the sockeyes.

Don't forget that you can only keep sockeye up to Gilligan creek on the south Skagit hwy. Not sure where you are staying .
Water looks pretty good but above Gilligan creek it restricted to artificials only , no bait , no smelly jelly. single barbless hook with no more than a 1/2" gap.
Good luck , hopefully you can hookup a catch and release king headed for the marblemount hatchery

There should be some early searun cutts around. They return sooner to the north sound streams then their souther counterparts.
Should be some bull trout around as well.

What is the reasoning behind the 7/17 to 7/20 and 7/24 to 7/27 closures,
some type of tribal netting?

Been camping on a friends empty lot up by the Baker, and for the past two days the tribes have been drift-netting 24/7 from the Baker all the way to the Dalles Bridge.

Didn't get a freakin' wink of sleep last night because of their loud-assed jet outboards screaming by every 5 min.

I stopped by the lot a couple weeks ago just to check it out, and saw they were netting then, as well, and were bringing in nets loaded with Sockeye after every drift.
