Why did the WDFW open up the Elliot Bay fishery for king awhile ago? Why didn't they just let the extra ones go and spawn so they can have a bigger run next year... I am just wondering.. Thanks

I think they were expecting a large return of hatchery fish, more then they needed for brood stock. If thats the case then they want those fish caught. They don't want hatchery fish spawning in the wild. These excess fish are usually trapped at the hatchery and disposed of in some way.

What happens when a hatchery fish spawns in the river and the eggs are fertilized by another hatchery fish? A wild fish??? I don't think so! In my opinion there are no more true hatchery fish left and if there is, not many. They should now be called "fin clipped" and "non fin clipped" salmon. What do you think?
