Fish on...

My buck$ are on the two young bucks for this Saturday....

Left a nice 3-4 yo 4x4 blackie for seed last season. They get heavy ahoof and horn when they make it to 6-8 years, if you can catch one of those ghosts tending a hot doe. Saw a pair of bald eagles heavily working the same area this spring and sadly found him expired in a meadow. Song dogs cleaned the entire carcass to where there wasn't even a loose bone or two left after a few days. The randy spike I saw sniffing an unwilling doe last evening has a long way to go....

Good luck!

But you wont find me in the woods on Saturday! Good day to get drunk and think, "I'm glad I'm not in the woods right now!"

Can't say I've ever hunted in a Typhoon before, BUT...the nastier the better. I'd rather have the crap that's coming this weekend than the bluebird weather from all of last year. Hopefully it gets em' horned up and running hard after the ladies.

Sorry to hear about your 3-4 year old not making it Driftin'. Where we hunt, very few ever make it to 5 - 7. Too many Cadillacs (their most natural of predators). smile

I'm heading back to the far upper right corner of our state to hopefully avoid a lot of the weather. I think everybody in the state is going to get wet to some degree this weekend if they are out and about chasing Bambi.

While my infamous Buck Zilla is long dead (he got harvested the year after I spotted him), I'm hoping to go shoot one of his offspring, or maybe even grandson. If the Zilla's don't want to cooperate, I'll move down a bit and hopefully score a nice eating white tail.

Good luck to all of you hunters out there and hope you shoot far, steady, and on target!

PS. Going to use the Rem 700 .270 that Driftin' foolishly let me have. I will do her proud. Never shot at an animal wit this rifle, so we are on a good relationship for now. smile

There's no "shoot far" where Nick and I are going...it's hand to hand combat in the jungle to bag an Island Blacktail wink

Fish on...

She served me well and I'm sure will do the same for you. If you miss, it wasn't the rifle. wink

Upon your successful return, I'd suggest that you sent the bolt along with $88 to Greg so he can do his magic.

The big boys are primarily nocturnal movers with predictable exception. Shadowed a pair of does with a fawn in hopes that Romeo would make an appearance. Didn't have to wait long before a trey and a 4x4 came in with heads down and back, following the doe's sweet scent chum line and missing mine. The 4x4 was a nice 4-5 yo buck. Seems the two ladies didn't pass the sniff test and the boys were off for those in the full estrus mode. Managed to see a spike, fork, trey and 4x4 straight. Looking for love....

I've seen the same, what I'd consider a big blacktail buck in the same spot two weekends in a row. Lots of does around so his nose is on high alert.
He almost became a hood ornament last weekend....

There was not a lot of anything up there. Very few animals were spotted by a group of hunters that have been up there for the last 20 years and knows the areas, etc.

I climbed Mt. Mick 4 times and hunted a nice draw where 90% of all the bucks have come from. Saw 7 doe white tails over 4 days. No muleys....no bucks....nothing.

It basically rained, winded, and fogged on us for 4 straight days. I'm thinking the weather had something to do with the lack of animals showing themselves, or allowing us to find them.

Fun few days of Armed Nature hikes for me.

Seen 6 deer this morning in one area, rattled in two spikes but no shooters, there is a big 3x3 in the same area but didn't show himself. Passed up a small forked horn and 4 spikes so far. Going back out after I eat. Deer are in the open today and on the move with this rain all night.

Seen a couple does yesterday and smelled a ripe buck but he never showed himself.

Back out this afternoon to get back after it...one of those bucks in our zone needs to slip up and be out during shooting hours, and we will be there if he does!

Fish on...

Nothing for us again this past weekend except lots of fun. Bucks are really rubbing it up now. They're starting to move during the day and seem to be getting dumber by the day, so eventually they'll reach our level and we'll find success! smile

Some arse-wipe stole the SD card out of our best camera. Totally not cool.

We watched this 4x4 with decent eye guards work a back yard over into to a 1 acre scrub plot and crossed the road straight in front of us. He seems to be practicing his Tsunami Route evac procedures into the woods above his apples.
