Anyone think there is a problem with the off spec. buzz bombs that are sold in some tackle stores? The ones I've seen are at least $1 cheaper. -Old Chum

Howdy,
Jed Davis wrote an artical in STS concerning Buzzbombs. His theory is a slightly defective bomb outfishes a perfect one. His advice is to notch the lure twice on one side near the hook to give it an erratic spin on the descent. My experience is that if you find the right color, the rest is academic.
Take Care.

I think I'll be picking-up some of the budget ones when I get a chance. Anyone ever have luck/suggestions taking chums in the salt on buzz bombs? I usually flyfish but sometimes have my 2 and 5 year olds next to my side... Thanks. -Old Chum

The commercial fishers in Alaska have hatchery chum returning to areas that are not needed for spawning and are stricly there to be harvested. The seiners come in and wipe them out. On occasion, we would get to a spot before a commercial opener and there were so many chums in the bay it would make Hoodsport look like a 4th grade science project. We pitched Buzz Bombs until our arms fell off but to no avail. But they worked like magic on the pinks and cohos.

The chums are showing well around my favorite South Sound trib. right now and I have been doing well tossing 1/2 oz. hammered brass SteeLee's at them. I add some kelly green tape to the smooth side of the spoon and a 2/0 siwash hook. These fish have been very bright and strong. Gear up for them as they are not line shy.
