Hi all-

I saw a friend had tapped the raw water on his kicker motor so that he had warm hand-washing water.

Wondering if anyone has tapped a larger motor, say 200hp, for the purpose of heating the cabin?

It's common on I/O to use freshwater cooling to heat the cab (like a car). Thinking maybe with the outboard, tap the raw water on the hot side, run it to the cab through a heater coil and then back out overboard.

Thanks,

Mike

Interesting idea as I've been wondering lately, since its been so cold, how to get heat to my cabin. My guess is the flow on my '91 Yamaha 200 is substantially smaller than on an any i/o as my coolant hoses are substantially smaller, and when it exits the prop, is "just kinda warm....100degrees?" ,running on a hose, not 180/190 like thermostat temps, and not a lot of volume....Have to remember, you're inducing salt water(47 degrees now?), havent been out lately, so the effluent temp is what it is(guessing less than 100 today). Without an insulated reservoir/loop, don't really see this being anything like the heater in anyone's I/O/car. Gonna have to run that hose up to cabin/back......If it were a viable option, probably would have heard about someone doing it/selling the kit.....Good idea, and if you do it, and it works.....I'll follow. Ha.

A search for "outboard hot water" spits out several other forum threads on this topic, but always for hands or thawing bait.
