Hit the river early yesterday morning fished the first couple of drifts and as I was moving from one hole to the next I looked down and low & behold right by my foot was the golden forest jewel "CHANTRELL" filled my garbage bag up with about 5pds. Fishen and Fungi damn it was a good day.

Last Cast - I know this is a fishing BB but I couldn't resist replying. For me the salmon fishing season has been a complete disaster but the mushroom season has been wonderful.

Last weekend I went after cohos and ended up skunked on the Sandy, NF Lewis, and Clackamas Rivers (again). However, I also did some mushrooming in the Mount Hood NF region near Sandy, Oregon and came up with a jackpot. I found plenty of white chanterelles, golden chanterelles, and some boletes. But perhaps the most interesting of all, I found good numbers of white matsutake (Armillaria ponderosa). It's the first I've seen of them. I picked close to 5 pounds. They were terrific sauted in butter. These musrooms are often exported to Japan at $500/lb. They were great, but I still think chanterelles are better. Good to hear that I'm not the only one who mixes salmon fishing with mushroom hunting. <@)(((><

Cohoangler just returned from the Cowlitz some nice Silvers in there and very few anglers between the dam & Blue creek.I use to hunt for Boletes and never have found Matsutakes but like you I also prefer Chantrelles. There might be more fungi hunters on here than you think,as you know fungi lovers go to the grave before they talk about where they find them.
