The Gig Harbor chapter of Puget Sound Anglers is holding its 22nd annual salmon derby on Saturday, 12 August, for Marine Areas 11 and 13.

All people in a boat must have a ticket (or receipt from online ticket purchases) to include youth (14 and under which are no cost). However, youth tickets are for youth prizes only. If a youth wants to fish for the main prizes or any team prize, the youth must have a paid derby ticket. Again, see the Derby rules.

If you are purchasing tickets online for fishers who will be in different boats please make separate purchases so that those in a given boat have a proper receipt. Ticket sales cease at 6:30 A.M. on the 12th.

Weigh-ins will be from 8:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M at Narrows Marina Bait and Tackle and also at Point Defiance Marina dock; arrival by boat only.

The top three cash prizes are $2,500, $1,000 and $500. Anglers having caught the next 7 biggest fish will have their choice of items from the award table plus there will be a cash prize for biggest fish caught by a woman and also by a youth. There will also be prizes awarded by the drawing of ticket numbers. Hot dogs, chips and water provided to ticket holders. Lots of fun!!

The award ceremony is scheduled to begin that day at 4:00 P.M. at Bass Pro Shop at 7905 S Hosmer St just off I-5 between the S. 72nd and S. 84th overpasses.

Remember that this Derby is affiliated with the National Marine Trade Association's West Marine Northwest Salmon Derby Series.

What that means is even if you can't fish your purchase of a ticket can make you eligible for the series grand prize of a new boat, motor and trailer as well as the award ceremony raffle prizes (selected by ticket drawing; you have to be in attendance). Oh, and your ticket money goes to a great cause!
