Good deal... mebbe he can help to at least align the conservation thresholds between PFMC and WDFW.

Unbelievable that all the harvest jurisdictions managing Grays Harbor salmon stocks (QIN/state/federal) can't all play from the same sheet of music when it comes to co-managing harvest to ensure sustainable escapements.

Words well said......I'm completely at a loss when I sit in NOF meetings and hear that Grays Harbor is managed by different "models".

I believe he is also a former employee and worked in Harvest Management but not in Puget Sound.

If this is true, and Don can get confirmed, this is great news for the fisheries side of WDFW and the State of Washington.

Not sure about the wildlife side however......

Wait a minute... am I the only one who associates PFMC with harvest regulations that heavily favor the commercial sector? Where's the positive in a former head of that group setting policies for conservation and fisheries?

I don't doubt Dr. McIsaac has a lot of knowledge that could benefit fish and fisheries. My fear, given his background, is that he won't use that knowledge in ways that benefit conservation or recreational fisheries.

Hoping for the best....

That was my first thought also. I don't know him, so hopefully I'm wrong in my assumption.

One can always hope that as participant of PFMC that his personal views differ from those of his previous post which was all about harvest. After so many years around fish it is prudent to wait rather than assign my views to him. That said as a PFMC participant I would say that on his score card this would be a check in I sure hope the hell not box. Time will tell.

I seem to remember that he was working in the Columbia, at a time when gill nets ruled.

Also Mr. Carpenter was reapointed.

Inslee re-appointed Carpenter, of Mount Vernon, to a term ending Dec. 31, 2018. Carpenter, who was initially appointed to the commission in December of 2011, currently serves as vice-chair of the commission.

If it was Commissioner Carpenter's wish to limit his commitment then this makes sense.

But since Inslee did not immediately re-appointment Commissioner Carpenter when his last term was up seven months ago this seems more like appointing a new guy to the six year term while keeping Commissioner Carpenter on the edge.

Time will tell but it sure seems like political manipulation to this Commission observer.

Since L. Carpenter’s term had expired, it appears like he is finishing the last 17 months of “resigned” M. Wecker’s term ending 12/31 2018.

Add to the intrigue the fact that Inslee re-appointed M. Wecker and later tried to force her resignation presumably due to her positions on both the LCR and Willapa fisheries.

I don't know this guy, but I don't trust anybody that this Governor would appoint.

Yes, not only did Miranda Wecker not finish her term but she was essentially replaced by one of “them” for a one two punch or a one, two, three punch with Larry Carpenter on a sort of probation for the next 17 months similar to what Larry B said.

Those commercial activists that like to stack the deck are a persistent bunch.

It will get back to how much we financially support WDFW. The only thing the Agency or Commission will listen to is actual money. Not threats but results.
