https://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/rfc/ REPOSTED THE FLOW UPDATE IS OUT> BIG CHANGE.

This thing has been changing on the forecast day by day but this is a big change in duration on inches. Have to wait a bit until the river forecast is updated but it looks like it is going to be a more significant event than thought. That said nearly 4 inches in the Olympics and at 3 on the coast is going to going to do a river reboot big time.

More: CENTRAL COAST:

...A CHANGE TO WET AND COOLER WEATHER IS IN STORE FOR WESTERN
WASHINGTON THIS UPCOMING WEEK...

A series of storms will bring much needed rain to Western
Washington starting Sunday. At this time, it appeared that the
heaviest rains will occur with the Monday and midweek storms.
Some places, especially on the coast and in the mountains, will
receive over an inch of rain from each of these storms. The amount
of rain expected will be the most we have received since late
spring.

Expect a cold front to sweep across the area late Sunday and
usher in a colder air mass. Snow levels will fall into the 4500 to
5500 foot range by Monday morning. Anticipate the snow levels to
generally remain in this range through the midweek. This will
result in snow accumulations, mainly above the 5000 foot level.

Those planning on hiking or camping in the mountains this
upcoming week should pay close attention to the latest weather
forecasts. Be prepared for wet and chilly conditions.

Raining in Hoquiam. Started just as I started mowing my lawn.

Back now from 6 weeks of fishing away from home.

Love this weather.
Nice to have the smoke gone that was hanging around Saturday.
Got the crap kicked out of us on beach yesterday by the south wind, but way better then bright sunny skies.
I'd rather rust then melt. I'm ready for fall!

It's not and this rain won't recharge much of anything. But it's a start in the right direction after the longest dry spell we've ever had.

As far as rain goes, it's pretty much a NON-event here in Grays Harbor. Yes we had a squall around noonish Sunday, but that cleared by mid afternoon. Expected the rain to do most of my boat washing, but that DIDN't happen.

Woke to some overnight rain early Monday, but it was blue skies in Aberdeen for most of the workday. Came home that night to a pretty decent squall around 9PM, but woke to blue skies with only patchy clouds this morning that persisted most of the day.

Pavement was dry on the drive home around 8-ish.

I hear NOTHING hitting the skylights as I type.

Had some heavy douchers at work in Kirkland throughout the day and the same here at home in north Seattle tonight.
Love it!

Rain is bit of fizzle to be sure but if you looked at the Sat imaging the bloody thing more or less curled right around GH. We got the inside edge as it came in and Oregon got the major water. Oh well lost on that one.

Here in Marysville we have gotten just under 2 inches of rain out this storm.

I find it interesting that in spite of the rain the soil remains bone dry at depths greater than 1".

The local rivers have responded somewhat differently following the rains. The Skykomish is still rising and is now have flows well above average. The North Fork Stillaguamish has crested at levels a little above average for this date. The Sauk had a smaller rise (in part due to the cooler weather shutting off the high elevation snow/ice melt) with flows peaking at levels below the 25th percentile.

While refreshing to get some rain I'm afraid that significant damage had all ready been due to wild fish populations that could little afford additional problems. Prior to the rain both the North Fork Stillaguamish and Sauk were flowing at levels similar or below that seen at the worst of the 2015 drought. Not good news for juvenile fish (coho, steelhead, cutthroat, bull trout, yearling Chinook, etc.) that have extended freshwater rearing periods.

Due to the abnormal low flows in the basins like the Skagit and Stillaguamish early spawning salmonids; spring Chinook and the early portion of the pinks spawned in less than optimum locations. Their eggs may be at greater risk of pre-hatch mortality depending on what the rest of the water year looks like.

To echo Curt, as flows lower the spawners get more and more confined to the thalweg. Which is where the water will flow hardest as freshets come. Low spawning flows and some good winter freshets should scour the redds pretty well.

Blue skies most of the afternoon whenever I peeked out the breakroom window between operative cases at the hospital today. Ground is dry, blue skies, very light breeze here at my Aberdeen office right now.
