Got a bunch of LOOSE chum eggs from a guy on the Vedder. My buddy said what the heck lets try making sacs. I cured them with Pro Cure Wizard natural. I got the gauze/netting at Teds. Any tips on making sacs?

I tie most my eggs to keep the hen killing at a minimum.

I've seen a few "machines" to help the tying process but have never bought a one because they all looked like junk to me. Perhaps a good one exists that I don't know about.

When the rivers are blown out I just spend an afternoon tying with good old thread and a needle. Tried "majic thread" before, wasn't impressed.

The best advice I can give is to lay out about 20 mesh squares and spoon the eggs into each one, then tie away.

Then wash your sticky fingers, reload and tie another 20. It takes me around an hour to tie a full days fishing worth of bait.

Hey Bruce ,I bought a kit years ago it came with a slick little devise made of stainless that squeezes the top close while you add the magic thread,I prefer to add the little foam balls that came with the kit and I also add chopped shrimp cut into small pieces or tuna.
The kings prefer the tuna but the steelies really like the shrimp egg combos.Hope that helps.....good luck........Osprey

When I am done curing my eggs (Normal clusters) there always seems to be a few single eggs left in the bowl/jar. The number of single eggs can vary from only 5-10 up to maybe 100 or so depending on how many skiens/clusters I am curing. Used to be I would toss these singles out. Now I save these up until I have a pint or so jar full. Then when the rivers are out or whatever, I take the time to tie up these "Egg Balls". I agree with everything New Zealand said but I have had good luck with "Magic-Thread". Three wraps, tighten, three more wraps and tighten again. Then I throw a half hitch around the thread. And "Osprey" is right. I have combined cocktail shrimp with eggs, large shrimp meat, tuna (Spring water), etc. Target the size of your egg balls to be from a nickel to a quarter coin in size. Tuna balls up to a fifty cent piece.
I also use old small corkies that I found on the river bank to put inside some of these egg balls. This helps float and bouyant the bait in deep salmon holes where the fish are suspended. One of the batches I made up I used styrofoam packing pieces inside the egg ball and it worked great. These things stay on until a fish grabs them or you snag up. Just another way to stretch your bait.

All very good methods above,I make my spawn sacs out of Potski eggs they come in every size, color,flavor and I kill no hens except for eating.

Thanks for all the tips! I also got one tip that might help all you guys that tie the sacs with string. Instead of string I twist the tops up tight and grab with a hemostat then burn/melt with a soldering pen. That not only cuts off the excess but seal and ties off the sac by melting it together. Try it you will like the result.
