I'm looking for any comments on the boat launches in Grays Harbor County.
I don't launch at Fuller Hill. Two people that I've talked to in the past 10 days, had problems at this site. Both launched their boats and pulled the boat up on the sand/gravel bar there. Both went to park rigs, came back to find boat out in the river....
1st boat was actually headed down river......guy lucked out as another angler was just coming to fish so got the boat, with dog in it, before it got to the Satsop.
2nd person, did same thing, but boat got "hung in the whirl pool"...this person actually stripped down to his shorts and had thoughts of going after it. He looked and the boat was coming back closer to launch....he ran up to his truck, got a rope, tied a wrench to it, threw it out to the boat and it hooked just right....both cases, if the anchor had been put down, chances of boat getting away, nil.
Anyone care to comment on ANY launch sites or parking areas...I'll make sure that Region 6 WDFW personnel get any and all comments.

Sounds like operator error in both situations?

So are you saying someone pushed them?
When I used to shuttle my DB myself I always cabled and locked it to a tree, not because I necessarily thought someone would steal it (they’d need their own trailer), I was more worried about someone being a dick and pushing it downstream.
On the other hand I’ve also had a couple cases where I did not got enough anchor out and the wind has blown the boat loose toward deeper water. Luckily have always been able to chase it down. I’m pretty careful about getting plenty of scope out these days.

What I'm saying is 2 guys launched their boats...DIDN'T PUT ANCHOR OUT, and boat drifted off. I've watched many guys back down ramp but cut so trailer is on the gravel bar, then launch or load boat. Sounds like operator error in both situations? I agree.............

I had that happen once. Launched the sea skiff with the jet, solo. Anchor at the front of the boat. Left the bucket in reverse at the shore. I had to wade out to my waist, didn't fish that day.

The whirpool effect at Fuller bridge is pretty strong when the river comes up, and there is not a lot of room to get the bow on the sand. I have launched there hundreds of times and can always tell if the current is too strong to not set the anchor on the beach before heading up to the parking lot. (Now next week my boat will float away).
I have seen a couple boats float away with the anchor in the sand, but another boat came by and the wake action on the boat pushed the anchors up and away from the beach.

Beautiful launch on 8th st and Levee st in Hoq, right behind Swanson's. I think it's 5 buck to launch. You can also stay in your boat for 14 days, not sure what the charge if any for moorage.

My first launch was an abortion launching in Sultan at the cracker bar. It helps to have your bow line tied when pushing it of the trailer. Got lucky and snagged it before the water was over my head. That was a cold day on the water. This was back in the good old days of C/R on the Sky.....damn I miss that late season, always caught a hand full of fish with light traffic.
