I'm not able to make it to the beach for the clam tides. It was a very nice day in Seattle yesterday and evening. I was hoping to hear of peoples escapades at the beach. I was hoping it was nice there for people that went.. take care JP.

Melanie and I went out to Mocrocks for Sunday's dig, terrible surf conditions, first time we haven't limited in years. Surf was way up, not many shows further up the beach and productive areas were never really exposed. I saw one other person with 3 clams (that's how many I had) and a couple with a clam or two. That was it! Melanie only had a single. Other then that 95% or more were clamless at 15 minutes before the low. That's when we bailed, surf kept rising as did the wind.Never seen it that bad as far as lack of clams, we would have saved ourselves the trip if we had checked the surf report. Strong southwesterly blow, rain at times. Fishermen we saw were fishless. Bob R

Friend of mine and his wife, dug.....worked hard......3 small clams !!!!

Glad I waited for later digs to start my clam digging experience after a "break of 40+ years".

Didn't limit last night off Grayland Beach State Park, but the clams we got were nice sized. Surf was not what was predicted. Will be out again this evening and tomorrow.

Surf was good tonight, rain was pretty bad at times. Discovered a new leak in my waders somewhere in the crotch.... and I never waded that deep. It was ALL rainwater!

Got limits for our motley crew of two (just me and fp), but it WASN'T easy. Greatest diversity of the season in both clam bags. Looked at the clock as we drove off the beach... 7:45 pm!

What kind of a lantern are you wearing? Looks like a Cat product. A lot easier to manage than a propane lantern.

bb, we both use them. They work.. Costco had/has them for around 30 bucks. Well worth it.

Same here, went to grayland and dug for 1.5 hours before a friend's six year got too cold. He toughed it out pretty well though.

Got a few between the five of us and found a clam bag. Worst digging I've had in a while... Still fun to be out in the elements though.

Nice set up.
I would add the Simms Comfort Bungie though.
Flat cord and polymer hooks.
Made in Montana (of course).

The Tractor Supply store in the Aberdeen's East Mall, has a bungie product that looks very similar.

Actually I made one more modification. Drilled through the aluminum frame so that the bungee secures to the bottom of the light for even greater stability.

Gonna hunt down some of those bungees with the plastic hooks. Thanks for the tip on the local source, DW.

Our local Costco has a smaller version of your light with a two pack selling for $20. The lumen range is 250 or 500.

Do you use the full 1100 or is 500 sufficient?

I only use the 550 setting when I dig.

Curious to know how large a "spot" is illuminated by the smaller lights. Mine easily lights up a 12 ft circle.

Guess I'll make the investment and see how they work. If they don't do the job, I'll have a couple of small work lights.

Thanks

Getting the "diggers" ready to fry right now. My clams weren't as consistently nice as FP's, but were good enough. I got to the tide really early, especially for a plus tide, and my first two clams were kinda' small. With a little more patience I found some good ones necking between surf surges. The nice picture of the two limits (of course I counted them, I'm an old Fishcop) somehow brought back a few memories - perhaps just my counting them did. In another life, when I was a Fishcop, many times I would sit at a distance and with good binoculars I saw people make several trips back and forth to their cars to stash a limit or more of clams. When it came time to check them after they were done digging, more times than not, when I searched their car, I found their drugs before I found their clams! Fun memories.
