The plastic garbage patch is now 16 times larger than previous estimates. The most amazing point I saw was that it consists of 46% fishing nets! Incredible!

Sickening, at least they said “net” instead of “fishermen’s monofilament” when referring to it like the media has done in the past. As a sport fisher, I really do not like to be lumped in with commercial fishermen when talking about impacts on that scale.

That scum pile may be its own ecosyatem someday with unique species. Thats crazy.

Not going to get any better anytime soon. China ratcheted down hard on what recyclables they will accept for recycling/manufacturing, and now, most plastics don't make the cut. There goes most of the world's capacity to recycle plastics. Into the ocean (and landfills) it goes.

These guys are going to row through it. . .cool initiative.
