Would any know what advantages there is to a off set anchor? Any disadvantages?

It gives you room off the transom to use a trolling motor.

I had one on my boat once and quickly replaced it with a center mount. For my boat at least I could not anchor in medium speed water because the boat would start swaying back and forth and then get to a point you could feel the side suck down. It would pop out and then sway to the otherside and repeat. Locking the oars in a verticle position helped a little but it was never a guarantee. With the center mount I can anchor just about anywhere my anchor will hold and the boat will not sway. The other issue I found with the side mount is when I went to pull anchor the boat would always want to turn sideways. Not a big deal until you have plugs out. I still have it and will put it on if I ever stick a motor on the back. It doesnt take long to change em.
