Doc, I'm surprised nobody else has responded to this thread you posted. I can say your methods, with some mods for my local waters, have helped me catch fish here I think I would not have hooked otherwise. There are a lot of fish here that "hit and spit" flies at lightning speed. I have more experiments to do but so far I've had some success with your hang back riggings.

Mahalo.

I've never fished walleyes in my life till 3 days last week at Potholes. When I rigged nightcrawlers for bottom walking I ignored the leader my buddy gave me and tied mine hangback style. I was catching almost all my takes while he was reeling in half-eaten worms. You and this technique was inspiration for that. ALL my herring rigging in the salt or B10 is rigged hangback. Thanks!

I tied up a couple hootchies hangback style by pegging the bead so the hook hung back past the tail a couple inches. It worked yesterday just like Doc said and is now the only way I'll fish them unless they quit working.

I've tied hootchies with a single hook for years with no loss of hookups. Ditching the second hook cuts down on bleeders. Running the single hook further back is an appreciated refinement. Thanks Doc!

Doc,

You've converted me! I just cannot thank you enough for taking all that time at last year's NW Sportsman's Show explaining how to rig lures with hangback hooks and which knots were easiest to use for these types of set ups, etc. I know I took up about an hour of your day but it really meant a lot!

I hope I (and others) will follow your leadership and help educate our community. I truly appreciate your efforts to inform and educate all of us.
