Greetings all,The whole mess regading managment of our states steelhead populations is fragmented at best and in need of a plan that takes into consideration angler movments from waters closed to waters remaining open. The crisis managment that is being prosecuted at presnt is in part due to the lack of a credible co mangement process between the tribes and the State. Add to that the releigous like zeal that most anglers portray in there pusuit of the fish and you end up with these confrontational and disruptive choices being sprung on us at the last minute. At least there telling us several months in advance, a guy should probably open up a coffee bar in forks there sure is going to be a crowd out there in March and April.
I haven't heard any calls for guns but traditionaly they come right in between lawyers and money.
A better Quote would probably be Churchill's
"Now this not the end. This is not even the begining of the end. But it is, perhaps the end of the begining."
A new begining for management of steelhead boy what a fight that would be! I have been listening to ideas on management scenarios as long as anyone on this board and I shudder to think of the possible outcome of what is looming on the horizon.
Suffice to say we tend to be too efficent and we constantly strive to be increasingly efficent in our abilitys to catch our prey hell its human nature. However at some point one must ask if there is a line that need not be crossed in the pursuit of sport for some the answer is Yes for others it is a laughable question posed by Elitist conservationist blah blah blah.
Well I hope to be involved at some level in the defense of the wild steelhead in our state and forgive me if I appear to be a bit synical from time to time, but it goes with the gray in my beard. My only problem is how to achieve this end sending in a few bucks, any oone can do that, joining a club how many is enough? Seems to me the biggest problem is always the same, trying to establish broad based support and rally a large number of stakeholders to a common cause when none of them really have all that much in common. That is politics and we all saw how devisive that can be, fools rush in so lets keep thinking on this issue and maybe we can come up with a plan that could get broad based support.
