Hey Everyone--
We have decided to have an Ocean Derby next year in May up at Glacier Bear Lodge up in Yakutat. Below are the particulars and I hope some of you can join us, it should be a great time and this time of year is one of the best for shallow water Halibut fishing in Alaska, we always do great!
I will have to warn you, there may be some drinking during this week! I hope the bar can handle it.

Dates--May 21st through 24th[/u]

Costs--The whole package is $2500 inc: room, meals, car, charters, entry fee, 50# V.P. and a box.
Specator special for the derby, $1000 includes room, meals, and car, for those guys who want to fish the Situk, relax and enjoy the commradary of the group, but not fish the ocean. The River will be full of fresh Steelhead for you!

May 21st –
7:00pm- 9:00pm Meet and Greet
License/ Stamp issuance; Designate Anglers to Boats, Overview of Rules, Regulations, and Schedule; Meet your Captain & Crew; Side Bet Explanation and Betting; General Q & A

May 22- 24-
5:00am- 7:00am Breakfast
7:00am (sharp)- 4:00pm (sharp) Fishing the Derby
9:00am, 11:00am, and 1:00pm raffle prizes and winners to be called out over VHF radio
followed by fish measuring, photos, announcing the daily points winners, and cleaning/ processing catches

May 24-
7:00pm Dancers
7:45pm Awards Ceremony
8:15pm Closing Banquet

Derby Prizes:
(All prizes are subject to participation/ entrants, all monetary values are with an assumed 30 entrants/ anglers)

1st place: 20%- $1800 + 3 night fully guided trip for 2 at Glacier Bear Lodge

2nd place: 15%- $1350 + bonus prize (day of charter or river fishing or fly-out)

3rd place: 10%- $900 + bonus prize (like above)

4th place: 8%- $720
5th place: 6%- $540
6th place: 5%- $450
7th place: 4%- $360
8th place: 3%- $270
9th place: 2%- $180
10th place: 1%- $90

Side Bets:
Most daily points per boat for all categories: 75%- $10,687.50

Biggest Halibut (derby long) for all categories: 75%- $18,187.50

Daily Raffle prizes (merchandise) will be given away over the VHF radio at 9:00am, 11:00am, and 1:00pm daily (22nd, 23rd, 24th)

All prizes will be subject to IRS withholdings, and will be awarded at the Awards Ceremony.

All prizes: cash, merchandise, charters, lodge packages will total over $70,000.

Side Bets
If you don’t play, You can’t win!

There will be two games to play. The first is a daily game for most points per boat. The second is derby long for the biggest halibut landed and entered into the derby. You can only win in the categories you play. It takes at least two bets to play per category. If only one bet is made in a category the bet will be fully refunded.
The payout will go to whomever played that category and had the highest score/ biggest halibut respectively. If the highest scoring boat did not play one of the categories, they will not win in that category. The boat/ player with the bet for the next highest scoring boat will win that prize.
For example: You play all categories of the daily game except the $1000 category, you will win in all but the $1000 category. The boat with the next highest score or whomever bet on that boat will win the $1000 category.

There are 6 categories for the Highest Points Daily game:
$100, $200, $300, $500, $750, $1000
Payout is 75% of total money taken in, with full participation it would payout $10,687.50.

There are 7 categories for the Biggest Halibut game:
$100, $200, $300, $500, $750, $1000, $2000
Payout is 75% of the total money taken in, with full participation it would payout $18,187.50.

Mr. Vedder is coming up in June for a different trip, but I am going to try and get him to come up for the derby. He would make a great MC, especially right after a few hours in our bar!

I remember something about the local talent at the Glass Door. Some you couldn't drink pretty, but others were not so much. Still, I think I fell in love. Several times.

As far as the MC job count me in, if I can fish, drink and play a bit and if I have enough FF miles.

Not very big, but lot's going on all the time and of course the best fishing you can have!

I want to know more about these dancers....JDarr needs to know it only takes two of our finest locals to make a ton of girls.... There are tons of girls in Yak... And it will be screaming good time, maybe the most money you've ever made sport fishing
