Good article.

The Yakima always catches my attention when fisheries issues come up. I spend time in the Little Naches country every summer and even way the hell up there are signs asking folks to tread lightly as the river, a mere creek at this point, is still used as a spawning area by salmon and steelhead.

I hope the basin revives enough to offer steady sport seasons in the years ahead but that's just a wish on the side.....I'm rooting for the fish and it looks like progress is indeed being made. thumbs

this was a great read. growing in yakima and seeing so much water being pulled from was sad to say the least. it is wonder the river doesn't dry up past prosser. notice it wasn't the indians (yakamas) who ruined the fish runs. the river is calling for 16000+ returning springers, this is not from any whiteman effort.

if i'm not mistaken the Yakamas are also the reason for having a great silver fall fishery on the klickatat too.

If it wasn't for the Yakamas, there wouldn't be any anadromous fish in the Yakima River.

Fish on...
