I am new to plugging and have been experimenting with custom colors. I have heard the debate on treble vs. single hooks and have decided to go with the single gammy. My question is how long of a beaded swivel to use. How far back of the tail of the plug should the barb be? I am using standard tadpollys, hot shots, and warts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

On my #30 and #35 hotshots I use a high quality #7 barrel swivel on the split ring, and crimp on a gammie #1 or 1/0 siwash. I don't use a bead chain like some of the other guys do. I think that this puts the hook back far enough.

I have been customizing my warts for years. I replace the trebles wit a 3 bead chain w/split rings and use gammy 1/0 siwash hooked to the forward eye. They don't get hung up nearly as much and the gap on the siwash bites in real well.

Get yourself some paint pens at a craft store and experiment. If you screw up too badly, wipe or dip them in lacquer thinner and start over.

On the wigglers I use a 4 bead chain. The idea is that you should have a half inch between the point of the hook and the tail of the wiggler.
